EC has 2 projects that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement: forestry projects and smart agricultural ecological transformation projects.

Minister Le Minh Hoan said, to meet EU initiatives on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), Anti-Deforestation Regulations (EUDR), or food safety. products… Vietnam’s agricultural industry has made efforts to transform its internal structure, thereby keeping pace with the changes of the blue planet and building a responsible and sustainable food system.

Regarding sustainable forest development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development highly appreciates the EU’s support for the agricultural sector in implementing VPA/FLEGT with the goal of improving forest governance and the legal framework regulating Vietnam’s wood and wood products. . Regarding EUDR regulations, the Ministry has established a technical group to work with EU partners in Vietnam and submitted to the Prime Minister an action program to adapt to the first three products: coffee, rubber, wood and wood. wood products.

The Minister affirmed that Vietnam actively participates in EUDR with initiative and without hesitation under the technical support of the EU. The Minister hopes to continue to receive technical access support so that EUDR-related products from Vietnam can be exported to the EU market more conveniently.

Sharing with Ms. Ferran, Minister Le Minh Hoan said that the sustainable development of the fisheries industry has been much improved. On issues related to IUU, the Minister requested EU support in the issue of marine farming. “With the three pillars of the fisheries industry: reducing exploitation, increasing aquaculture and marine conservation, we need technical advice,” the Minister said.

Regarding this proposal, Ms. Ferran said that the EC will consider sending officials to discuss with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to concretize the idea or include it in components of existing projects being implemented.

Minister Le Minh Hoan also proposed that Ms. Myriam Ferran pay attention to the content of adapting to EU regulations, including the EUDR Regulations, transforming the food system to be sustainable, inclusive and resilient; and support collaborative research, innovation and digital transformation in the fields of climate change adaptation, green growth, rational use of natural resources, circular economy, and digital transformation.
